Introduction

The iBiOs electron microscopy (EM) unit provides support and training for researchers and students for a variety of EM techniques in cellular and molecular biology. We provide training for users to operate electron microscopes and offer EM service for determined projects including data interpretation.
Our unit includes a 200 kV and two 120 kV transmission electron microscopes (TEM) for 2D and 3D cryo- and room temperature applications and analytical TEM. For 3D serial bloc-face imaging of large volumes of specimens our field emission scanning electron microscope (SEM) is equipped with a 3View Unit (Gatan). For conventional SEM we operate a system which offers high and low vacuum conditions. A additional scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with a focused ion beam (FIB) module for 3D imaging is operated in cooperation with the School of Applied Sciences Osnabrück. The laboratory is designed to provide a complete 2D and 3D correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM) workflow which also include a LM cryo-stage that allows recording of fluorescence modalities of frozen ultrathin sections or cells prior to correlative analyses by cryo-TEM.
